Cuervo Y Sobrinos
Cuba means a lot of things to different people. Today it seems to be the last bastion of genuine retro in an age of frenzied technology. However, turn the clock back to the early twentieth century and you find that Ramón Rio y Cuervo and his sister’s sons kept a watchmaking workshop and an elegant store on Quinto Avenida where they sold fine Swiss pocket watches— and more modest American models as well. With the advent of tourism from the coast of Florida, their business developed with wristwatches, whose dials Don Ramón soon had printed with Cuervo y Sobrinos— Cuervo and Nephews.
